The Century Plant
OUR RANGE OF PLANT SIZES
From small specimen to tall landscape definers
10-20
A young offset of Agave americana, also called Century Plant, grown in a 1 litre pot. Ideal for starting a dry border or container on a sunny Spanish terrace. Use gritty, free-draining compost and water sparingly while roots establish. Viveros La Brisa keeps limited rotating stock of these starter plants.
25-40
A two to three year old nursery rosette in a 5 litre pot, showing the stiff blue-green leaves and sharp tips typical of the species. In Spain it thrives in full sun and poor, sandy soil, making it useful for xeriscaping and coastal gardens. Avoid waterlogged winter ground. Availability depends on current nursery batches.
50-70
An established Agave americana in a 15 litre pot, already forming a bold architectural rosette. Suited to Mediterranean and inland Spanish gardens where drainage is sharp and sun is constant. Plant on a mound if soil is heavy. Salvage and retail specimens appear in changing quantities.
80-100
A specimen sized Century Plant in a 30 litre pot, with broad leaves and a strong presence for contemporary landscapes. It needs space, full sun and very free-draining soil; in Spain it tolerates heat and drought once settled. This size is often limited and may include reclaimed stock.
120-150
A mature Agave americana in a 50 litre pot, offering instant drama for dry gardens, courtyards and commercial planting. Grown for full sun and low water use in most of Spain, though cold inland pockets may need winter protection. As a monocarpic plant it flowers once after many years. Stock is rotating, so ask about current availability.
