The Mediterranean fan palm
From small specimen to tall landscape definers
These tiny Chamaerops humilis seedlings are the start of a resilient Mediterranean fan palm. Grown in plug trays at our nursery in coastal Spain, they benefit from intense sun and well-drained soil, developing the hardiness needed for future droughts and coastal winds.
At this juvenile stage, the palm is still trunkless but sports a compact crown of fan-shaped leaves. Ideal for mass plantings or as a groundcover start, these plants are already accustomed to the full Spanish sun and will establish quickly in similar dry, rocky settings.
Now forming a small clump with slim, multiple trunks, this size begins to show the palm’s signature silhouette. Grown under open skies in our Mediterranean nursery, they've been hardened off to thrive in the hot, dry summers typical of southern Spain and similar regions.
A robust, bushy specimen ready to fill a border or container. These Chamaerops humilis have been spaced in nursery rows to encourage strong trunk development. Their Spanish upbringing means they’re naturally suited to poor soils, needing little water once established.
Entering its architectural phase, this palm makes an instant impact with textured trunks and a spreading crown. Farmed in our sun‑drenched fields near the coast, it stands up to salt spray and relentless summer heat-perfect for seaside Spanish gardens or patio containers.
A substantial clump that has developed genuine character, with multiple trunks showing the typical fibrous texture. These plants have spent years in our nursery, getting deep, infrequent waterings that mirror the natural rainfall patterns of the Spanish Mediterranean, producing exceptionally tough root systems.
Our largest nursery-grown Chamaerops humilis, already a mature feature plant. Standing over a metre tall with thick, clustered trunks, it has been field‑acclimated to blazing Spanish sun and limestone soils, ensuring it will continue to thrive in any Mediterranean‑style landscape with minimal care.
The Mediterranean fan palm
A hardy, clumping palm that brings instant Mediterranean character to any project. Chamaerops humilis forms dense, multi-stemmed clusters of fan-shaped, deep green to silvery-blue fronds, reaching 2–4 metres in height and spread. Exceptionally drought-tolerant once established, it thrives in full sun and poor, well-drained soils, making it ideal for low-maintenance landscapes, coastal schemes, and large containers. Our reclaimed specimens have been carefully salvaged and acclimated, offering landscapers and garden centres mature, characterful plants with immediate impact and proven resilience.
