The English lavender
From small specimen to tall landscape definers
Our smallest offering, these Lavandula angustifolia plug plants arrive fresh from our inland Valencia grower. Raised under shade cloth to establish roots before the fierce August sun, they are ideal for mass planting or lining terracotta pots. The Spanish climate coaxes out an intense blue flower and that classic, calming fragrance even in these compact youngsters.
A step up for home gardeners and landscapers, these 1‑litre plants have been pruned twice to encourage bushy growth. We keep them on gravel beds to emulate their native stony soils and improve drainage – a trick that prevents root rot during Andalusia’s humid winters. When you pot them on, they’ll be ready to flower within a season.
These 2‑litre specimens have overwintered once on our exposed nursery terrace, making them exceptionally hardy. The mild coastal breezes of La Manga have thickened the silver foliage, and we’ve been feeding them with a light compost tea brewed from local olive prunings. Perfect for immediate effect in a drought‑tolerant border.
Ready to take centre stage in a large planter, our 3‑litre Lavandula angustifolia are from a salvage batch reclaimed after a neighbour’s landscape renovation. We nursed them back with extra grit and a sun‑scorched resting period, which has only intensified the essential oils. They now carry a dense, mounded form and are starting to lift their first flower spikes of the year.
These impressive 5‑litre plants have been field‑grown in Murcia’s high plains before being containerised. The sharp diurnal temperature swings have forced a tight, aromatic habit. When you visit the nursery, you’ll see them lined out in a grid of thousands, their purple haze visible from the track. At this size, they make an instant low hedge.
Our largest stock of Lavandula angustifolia, these 7‑litre veterans are at least four years old. Hand‑selected from a retiring grower’s collection near Almería, they have characterful, twisted wood and a proven record of flowering even with minimal irrigation. A single plant can perfume a whole patio – the kind of specimen that tells a story in a Mediterranean garden.
